The decision was made many years ago to support Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle only as officially supported RDBMS. I checked case history and found only a couple of requests for alternative databases like PostgreSQL. I cannot tell what features of ArcFM are not supported with PostgreSQL, never tested. I can tell you there are several places where we use RDBMS specific SQL statements, particularly in the initial setup of preparing a database to work with ArcFM.
We asked before we purchased, so there may be many more requests for PostgreSQL than were captured in "case requests"; if that option had been available, we would have chosen it.
Our customer currently want to use Postgresql 9.2.2 as of the publication database for data services ArcGIS Server which replicates data periodically by copying them from the production geodatabase based on Oracle 220.127.116.11
We have successfully tested the creation of the system tables ArcFm on Postgresql 9.2.2, copy and paste via ArcCatalog dataset from Oracle to postgresql and the subsequent import of xml arcfm properties
The publication of a service based on ArcGIS Server not seem to give problems
do you think can be some problems for the use of postgresql as data publication database with custom objects ArcFM?
For the future it is possible that you take into account this db for data management? ESRI supports it for years, and more and more customers in Italy are asking us if they can migrate to this DB.
