Is Session Manager Required for using FM 2.0 Feeder Sync?

    Kamal Hassan

Is it necessary to edit our data using ArcFM Session Manager for the FM 2.0/FM 1.0 synch to work? Can't we stick to the base ESRI version reconcile/post technique?DHEERAJ BAJAJRajesh Pillai

Here is a great write up about Feeder Sync: Available Now - Feeder Sync Tool (Beta)!! (now with GDBM)

Basically, you will either need Session/Workflow Manager, Geodatabase Manager, or a custom button or extension to initiate and perform the Sync process. You will not be able to use the standard ArcMap Post button.

          Hopefully this is clear.

          Kind regards,

          James

I can't believe after more than 2 years of development Feeder Sync has not become part of the Core ArcFM.

We do not have GDB Manager and our work processes do not require the overhead of Session/Workflow manager. Right now we are struggling to get a custom Sync tool to work properly, lines will sync but not point features.

Hi Peter - sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Feeder Sync. Are the point features you're mentioning showing up in the MM_Edited_Features table properly? It would probably be best to open a Support case on this if you haven't already done so.

With the ArcFM product, OOTB we support the use of Feeder Sync with Session Manager or GDBM because there are benefits to syncing on post (no version conflicts, performance) and we want to encourage our customers to go that route if possible. However, we do realize that there are certain business processes and/configurations that require syncing before post - which is why that developer sample was created.

Many utilities, we are one of them (Electricity and Water Authority of Bahrain), prefer to use the standard ESRI version reconcile/post tools to manage their data editing activities. Accordingly, it is very important to have FM 2.0 working properly with the base ESRI version tools in terms of the FM fields' visibility (FeederID's, SubfeederID's, etc ...) in ArcMap in addition to the data Synch back to FM 1.0.

In many cases on creating a new version or switching between versions, the FM fields disappear. Sometimes the fields will be visible but the FeederID's field will show Null value. The data Synch to update the FM 1.0 fields on version post, never worked for me.
