    Run-time error  '-2147418113 (8000ffff)'

    Anna Herttuainen

We are facing an issue when opening mxd documents from the file (before opening the arcmap software): After signing in to arcFM, an error message is shown which says:

      Run-time error '-2147418113 (8000ffff)':

      Automation error

      Catastrophic failure

Do you know what could cause this type of situation? When clicking OK, it seems that the mxd file opens just fine. Also, some of the users are facing different issue where when clicking a document icon, the ArcFM sign-in window opens normally but after writing the information and clicking ok, nothing happens.

Hopefully someone can give an idea what could solve this type of behaviour.

          Hello Anna,

This may be related to a bug that has been fixed in recent releases of ArcFM.  The specific problem related to opening .mxd files that had been saved in the page layout view, as opposed to the data view.

Can you confirm the release that is causing this error, and whether the view last saved for the .mxd file makes a difference?

If this is in fact the error, you should be able to resolve this by either updating the release of ArcFM in use (this was fixed in ArcFM 10.2.1a).  Alternately, you may work-around the issue by loading the .mxd file after starting ArcMap, and saving the .mxd file in data-view.

          Hope this helps!

              Hi Tim,

Thanks for the quick reply! I checked the version and it is However, I find that it does not matter if the mxd has been saved in layout view or data view: Either way the mxd does not open when clicking the icon. Do you still think that the update would help or do you have any other ideas?

              Thanks for your help!

is not 10.2.1a.  It's not even 10.2.1.  If you have 10.2.1 installed, your version should say

This post from SE a year ago references the fact that Build 575 is not the supported build for 10.2.1 and might cause issues: Client Action Needed for 10.2.1

                      Hi Anna,

David is right, build 575 was a recalled release of ArcFM 10.2.1 (ArcFM 10.1.1 also had an identical recalled build #), and should not be used at all either in test, development, or production.  Please upgrade all ArcFM Desktop installations to build 588 (or later) for the 10.2.1 release.  This is an important issues, and required for continued support of the client's ArcFM installation.

If running using ArcFM 10.2.1 build 575, please uninstall that release and reinstall ArcFM in it's place.  Then try installing some of the latest patches to ArcFM Desktop 10.2.1.  Do not install recent patches for the 102.1 release on the .575 build, or there will be errors expected to occur; current patches are not compatible with the recalled release.

Please try updating the release builds in use, and let us know if that helps to resolve the issues in any of the cases - thanks!
