FAQ - ArcFM - Selection Tips When Converting CAD Data to ArcFM Features

Version 2

    Question

When converting CAD data to ArcFM features, are there any keyboard options to help select specific features for conversion?

    Answer

CAD data can be added to a stored display as any other layer. The DWG format allows you to select and copy specific CAD features for subsequent use by ArcFM.

The Select Features option within the Tools toolbar can be used to select CAD data of interest. To aid in selecting the feature type of interest, you can limit selection to a single layer.

    1. Within the ArcMap Table of Contents, access the List by Selection tab.
    2. Right-click on a specific CAD layer and choose Make This The Only Selectable Layer.

When selecting CAD data for conversion to ArcFM features, there may be situations where selecting the exact data is difficult. You can use the following keyboard options to aid in selecting the appropriate data to convert.

Option A: Using the 'Ctrl' key selection method

    1. Select the CAD data of interest.
    2. While holding down the ‘Ctrl’ key, reselect one or more of the selected features.

Reselected features will become selected while other features will become unselected.
