FAQ - ArcFM - Running ArcFM Solution Object Converter and Verifying ArcFM Status

Version 5

    Question

What is the role of the ArcFM Solution Object Converter and is there a way to verify that an object is converted?

    Answer

The ArcFM Solution Object Converter is used to convert ESRI objects to ArcFM objects. When using ArcFM, this conversion is important since ArcFM functionality utilizes only "ArcFM-ified" objects. When the tool is run, there are options to convert ESRI objects for use by ArcFM or Designer. Objects can also be reverted back to ESRI objects as needed. This conversion can be performed with no harmful impact to the objects.

The ArcFM Solution Object Converter is accessible via ArcCatalog. Right-click at the database, dataset, or individual object level to access the tool. The level at which the tool is accessed determines which objects are "ArcFM-ified." For example, the tool can be run at the database level or can be used to convert objects for a particular dataset or for an individual object (e.g., a feature class).

    1. Using ArcCatalog, right-click on a feature class and choose Properties.
    2. Click the General tab of the Feature Class Properties dialog.
    3. The property type will indicate if the feature class is an ESRI object or if it is converted for use by ArcFM or Designer.
