    icon_tools_yellow_white_80x78.pngTips and Tricks: Configuration

Follow these tips to help you use tools more efficiently.

Tip 1: Drop-down lists that allow users to pick a value are often built as domains, and in many cases alphabetized domains make finding the desired value easier for users. If you have a domain that needs to be alphabetized, don't erase and re-type all the values! Instead, run this quick Python script from ArcCatalog, changing the path, database name, and the domain name to your own values.

Tip 2: When you need to add a new domain with more than a few values, copy and pasting each value individually takes too long and opens the door for transcription errors. You can streamline this process by pasting the whole list of values into a Word document, adding the domain name and type at the top, then running this script to generate an XML file for the domain.
