The Utilities Telecommunications Council - Telecom and Technology conference was held in Atlanta, GA this year. Ryan Potts, Tim Battle, and Joe Rodriguez attended from Schneider Electric. They attended many of the sessions during the conference and also exhibited in the exposition floor. It was great to see many of our existing customers at the conference including: Jacksonville Energy Authority (JEA), Tri-State Generation and Transmission, Centerpoint Energy, and Pacific Gas and Electric. A long time ArcFM Customer, Southern Companies, was the host utility.
The conference touched on many key issues utility communications networks are facing as they try to evolve their grids towards a more connected environment. Key topics of sessions included: Creating the Utility of the Future, the Transition from SONET/SDH to IP, Rural broadband and utilities' role in providing these services, and identifying new revenue streams for utilities. Throughout the sessions, there were many examples of how GIS and improved network documentation and management tools are going to be critical pieces in the future of utility communication networks. This was reenforced at our conference booth by the positive feedback we received as we showed utilities Fiber Manager and Wavepoint and the benefits it could provide them.
We look forward to next year's show, please contact us if you have any further questions about the conference or our products.
