How-to - ArcFM - Convert a personal geodatabase to a file geodatabase

Version 2

    Solution

Here are step-by-step instructions for converting an ArcFM personal geodatabase (.mdb) to an ArcFM file geodatabase (.gdb).

    1. In ArcCatalog, right-click any folder connection and select New > File Geodatabase.
    2. Move data from the .mdb to the new .gdb:
      • To copy only certain items from your personal geodatabase: Select one or more items (such as feature classes or datasets) in the Contents pane, then right-click and select Copy. Right-click the .gdb file and select Paste.
      • To copy everything: Right-click the .mdb file and select Export > XML Workspace Document. Then right-click the .gdb file and select Import > XML Workspace Document.
    3. Right-click the new file geodatabase and select Create/Update ArcFM Solution System Tables.
    4. Right-click the new file geodatabase and select Upgrade ArcFM Solution Database.
    5. Right-click the personal geodatabase and select ArcFM XML Export. Check every box, specify a location for the xml file, and click Export.
    6. Right-click the new file geodatabase and select ArcFM XML Import. Overwrite any conflicts.
    7. Right-click the new file geodatabase and select ArcFM Data Source Wizard.

The Copy, Paste, XML Export Workspace, and XML Import Workspace are all ArcCatalog commands. We recommend the following Esri documentation for more information.
