    Question

What is the function of the Duplicate Feature rule for a feature class?

    Answer

The Duplicate Feature rule checks whether there are one of more features in a layer that have the same geometry.

    How to set it:

    1. Open ArcCatalog.
    2. Right click on a feature class and select ArcFM Properties Manager.
    3. Select the Object Info tab.
    4. In the Rules section, check Duplicate Feature.
    5. Click OK.

It executes when QA/QC is run in ArcMap on a feature in a feature class that has it set. Any duplicate features will be reported in the QA/QC tab of the ArcFM Attribute Editor.

It is mainly used in Designer Express, where it is more likely to create features with the same geometry due to the use of Designer Feature Classes in Compatible Units. These feature classes are not in the geometric network, so they do not adhere to the network rules that apply to regular feature classes. When the features are commissioned, they become regular feature classes in the geometric network. Once commissioned, QA/QC can be run on them to check for duplicates.

Once it is set on a feature class, it will run whenever QA/QC is run, even when not using Designer Express.
