Esri recently announced that utility customers will have an option to upgrade to ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1.  While ArcGIS Desktop and ArcFM 10.2.1x will continue to be supported through June 2021, ArcGIS 10.6.1 gives customers and partners longer -term support on the Geometric Network and ample time to prepare for the Utility Network and ArcFM Editor XI.

Below is a list of frequently asked questions and answers regarding Schneider Electric’s support for ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1:

Will ArcFM support ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1?

Yes, a new version of ArcFM products will be released later this year (2018) to support ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1. It will be called ArcFM Solution 10.6.1.

Will all products within the ArcFM Solution support ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1?

Yes, all ArcFM products and extensions that require ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Enterprise will be upgraded to support 10.6.1.  This includes, but is not limited to, ArcFM, Designer, Responder, Fiber Manager, and ArcFM Web.

I anticipated an ArcFM 10.2.1e release in 2018, will that still be an option for me?

ArcFM 10.2.1e will not be released; ArcFM 10.6.1 will take its place.  We anticipate ArcFM 10.2.1d will be the last full release of our 10.2.1x product line except for service packs and patches.

I’m an electric utility on ArcFM 10.2.1d.  Do I need to stay at that version?

ArcFM 10.2.1d is a perfectly viable option; you can stay at 10.2.1d but you’re not required to.  You now have the option to upgrade to ArcFM 10.6.1 if you want to stay on the Geometric Network and need more time to plan for Esri’s Utility Network Management Extension and ArcFM Editor XI.

Can I upgrade ArcFM and ArcGIS Desktop to something in-between 10.2.1 and 10.6.1 such as 10.4?

For ArcFM products that require ArcGIS Desktop, no.  ArcFM does not support ArcGIS Desktop 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 or other intermediate versions.  ArcFM 10.2.1 will still require ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.1.  ArcFM 10.6.1 will require ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1.  To clarify, that policy only applies to desktop products.  ArcFM customers are encouraged to stay current on ArcGIS Enterprise (formerly ArcGIS Server) such as 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6.  A full list of supported versions of ArcGIS Enterprise can be found here.

Will ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.1x support ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1?

Yes, ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.1 and ArcFM 10.2.1d will support ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 and 10.6.1.

Will you still patch releases of ArcFM 10.2.1x?

Yes, we will continue to provide patches that fix defects in supported versions of 10.2.1x. The original review process for patches remains in place. You may review the Maintenance Policy for more information.

ArcFM Solution Customers and Partners,

Esri, in partnership with Schneider Electric, has just announced that utility and telecom customers will have the option to use ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 when it’s released later this year.  ArcGIS 10.6.1 will extend support for the Geometric Network until January 2024, giving you ample time to prepare for the Utility Network.  In case you missed it, here is Esri’s communique.

Schneider Electric is fully aligned with this decision and we will be releasing a new version of ArcFM products to support ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1.  We anticipate this to be called ArcFM Solution 10.6.1.

To be clear, ArcFM Solution 10.2.1 continues to be a viable option, supported through June 2021.  Esri and Schneider Electric will offer ArcGIS and ArcFM 10.6.1 as an alternative to the 10.2.1 platform, especially for customers wishing to stay on a supported version of the Geometric Network beyond the 2021 timeframe.  ArcGIS and ArcFM 10.6.1 will also provide updated 3rd party certifications for items like Oracle, SQL Server, .NET Framework, and MS Visual Studio and will include many new and valuable enhancements.

While ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 is not yet released, we want to prepare you with the right amount of information to plan accordingly.  As such, we would like to offer this FAQ as a source for immediate answers about ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 and ArcFM Solution 10.6.1.  If you have further questions regarding the upcoming release of ArcFM Solution 10.6.1, please reach out to your Schneider Electric account representative.

Best Regards,

Your Geospatial Leadership Team

ArcGIS 10.5.1 is now certified for use with ArcFM Object Reader 10.2.1d, ArcFM Server 10.2.1d, and ArcFM Object Reader 10.2.1d for ArcGIS Server.

Certification means that the software combinations above have been fully tested and verified for correct functionality, are fully supported, and are eligible for patching support for appropriate issues.

Announcing the ArcFM Solution 10.2.1b Release

Schneider Electric is excited to introduce the 10.2.1b release of the ArcFM Solution. We've added powerful functionality and intelligent enhancements to many ArcFM Solution applications. ArcFM Solution 10.2.1b has been certified against ArcGIS 10.2.1. The ArcFM 10.2.1b release introduces the following:

ArcFM

ArcFM received a variety of enhancements:

  • Feeder Manager (FM) 2.0 better supports customizations that rely on feeder information changing.
  • Feeder Manager 2.0 supports ArcFM Field Order so users have easy access to the most critical information needed to do their job.
  • The Feeder Sync Tool is faster at updating feeder information in the geodatabase.
  • There is now an Exit button on the ArcFM Login screen so you can easily back out of unintended ArcMap opens.
  • The ArcFM Attribute Editor, ArcFM Locator, and ArcFM Identify tools have more robust support for enterprise data models, both inside and outside of the geodatabase.

Designer

The enhancements to Designer focus primarily on usability:

  • When a user runs the Auto Assign Work Location tool (commonly known as the Car Tool), the tool assigns CUs to work locations according to their work function.
  • Take advantage of stability improvements in Designer and Designer Express for a better user experience with graphics, editing, commissioning, and more.

Responder

We added a number of enhancements to Responder 10.2.1b:

  • Full jumper functionality is fully integrated with planned switching and restoration orders! Planning, adding, and removing jumpers is done visually through the Switching Orders Editor and its tight integration with ArcMap.
  • Responder consumes Weather Web Services to add weather tracking to your Responder maps. Click the wws.png icon on your Responder toolbar in ArcMap to begin your free trial.
  • When you place jumpers, Responder makes sure you are not mistakenly energizing a ground.
  • The Edit Incident tool in ArcMap will no longer require disabling the region filter to access the Edit Incident box for incidents outside of a Dispatcher's assigned regions.
  • Responder Web will visually indicate expired restoration estimates on the Customer Service tab.
  • Responder Explorer has a Reprocess Devices option available through an incident's right-click menu that will re-calculate loadpoints. The process will create needed loadpoints and delete ones that no longer exist to resolve database errors or changes.
  • The Calls tab shows what phases are affecting customers.
  • The Execute All button on the Switching Orders Editor is configurable, allowing you to remove it on individual client machines.
  • You can run a switching order report through the Switching Orders Editor main menu.
  • We enhanced the Notify Network Change tool to also call Esri Version Change.
  • You have the option to remove the arrival time for a hazard, which also removes the need to enter a departure time.
  • The Restoration Steps command is available on incidents without devices, such as those with only non-electric features or hazards.
  • We added a new Developer Sample to exchange that illustrates how to add custom queries to define reports.
  • We've made enhancements to the PubSub infrastructure which will allow for faster updates and increased application responsiveness.

ArcFM Mobile

  • Field crews can work regardless of network connectivity, increasing productivity across the service territory and reducing reliance on expensive data plans.
  • The new ArcFM Mobile Viewer option gives crews essential map navigation and search tools at a lower subscription rate.
  • Redlining enables crews to create sketches associated with their work to share GIS corrections and other situational information.
  • Coordinators can quickly configure "follow-up work" for better collaboration between field resources and between field and office.

ArcFM Server

  • Related records are now controllable via ArcFM configuration, like any other feature.

Fiber Manager

  • We've added numerous bug fixes.

Wavepoint 1.0.3

  • The Map toolbar has been updated to provide functionality for features new to 1.0.3.
  • The new Measurement Tool provides two ways - Distance and Location - of measuring between points on the map.
  • The Legend tool provides a legend, in Wavepoint's left pane, that displays all of the features currently viewable in the map.
  • The Identify pop-up has been revamped to provide attribute information in a Selection tab in the left pane, rather than in the map on top of other features.
  • Wavepoint leverages Esri's Javascript API version 3.11.

ArcFM Solution 10.2.1b is certified on Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Oracle 12c. Refer to the Supported Versions list in the GIS Support space in exchange for details. A full list of new functionality is available on the What's New in 10.2.1b? page in the exchange community. This release also resolves issues discovered by customers in previous versions. For complete descriptions of resolved problems, view the ReadMe file that corresponds with each product.

The 10.2.1b version is an upgrade that can be installed on top of 10.2.1 or 10.2.1a without uninstalling. The installation files for version 10.2.1b behave as complete installations. Refer to the ReadMe file for more information. ArcFM Solution 10.2.1b is certified for ArcGIS Server 10.3 and 10.3.1.

All installers are available on Exchange in the GIS Downloads group. If you haven't joined the exchange community, simply click Register to get started. You will need to request to join to the GIS Downloads group to access the 10.2.1b installers.
